Cornices

Cornices are constructed of wood and padded with polyester fiberfill. Solid and non-directional fabrics will be railroaded to eliminate seams. Matching 1/4” welting is standard at top and bottom edges. Custom designs are available. Should you require other shapes, please contact our Sales Department.

Measure drapery rod from end bracket to end bracket and add four inches for rod clearance. Six inch returns are needed when mounted over a single rod. Add another three inches for each additional rod to be installed.

Rods are most commonly mounted into the underside of the cornice. A reduced header (1 x 2 board) is most often used if the rods are to be mounted directly into ceiling.

Board

Valances come in varied types and mounting methods. Under normal circumstances, ceiling mount valances are installed using 1" by 2" covered board, with the actual valance either stapled to the board or attached using Velcro for ease of cleaning.

Lining

Valances should normally be self-lined. If not self-lined, they should be lined with blackout lining. In addition they can have velcro sewn at the top for ease of cleaning.

Swags and Cascades

Swags drape into soft folds and we recommend that you use fabrics which will drape easily. Cascades, or Jabots, are softly folded panels that hang at the end of the board face with a cascading length. Cascades must be self lined with the face fabric or a coordinating fabric. (Standard blackout is not an option.)

Swags - Based on an average of 23" to 44" per swag, you will need an average of 2 yards of fabric per swag.

Swag Width

Each swag will vary in width from 20" to the maximum recommended width of 49" per swag. Very small swags will have only a few folds. Wider swags will have a shorter drop length.  The width of the swag(s) is determined by the board face and the number of swags which are to be used. The guide below will be helpful in determining the number of swags you will need for the board with you are using.  This guide assumes that the swag overlap will start approximately one half (1/2), or less, the width of the swag face.

Face Width Number of Swags
36" to 48" 1 Swag
49" to 70" 2 Swags
71" to 100" 3 Swags
101" to 125" 4 Swags
126" to 150" 5 Swags
151" to 175" 6 Swags
176" to 200" 7 Swags
201" to 225" 8 Swags
226" to 250" 9 Swags
251" to 275" 10 Swags
276" to 300" 11 Swags
